Seagrass
Chequerboard and Other Patterns
"Chequerboard" is the one pattern that everyone seems to recognise. Taught in school CDT, (or woodwork) classes up until the last quarter of the 20th century, it is easy to do, (even for children) effective and strong. Back then, all sorts of colours were available, but today we only supply the natural material which is lovely in itself as it changes colour with age anyway.
However, seagrass is far more versatile than this one design, there is a whole gamut of patterns that can be woven with this material, but sadly, the traditional rush pattern is not one that we would recommend. Twill, herringbone, reversed chevrons, all manner of patterns work really well. Please take a look at the gallery below to see some of the possibilities. Our prices to re-seat in seagrass start at around £55 for a simple chequerboard weave on a small footstool. To buy seagrass for DIY repairs, please look at Seat Weaving Supplies
How can we replace the weaving on your furniture? One option would be to bring your project along and come to visit us. We are close to the New Forest and the beautiful south coast, so a good excuse for a mini break perhaps?! Or you could e-mail us photos, or send smaller items via the post or a courier, (well wrapped and boxed). Give us a call and we can discuss the possibilities. The gallery below shows some of the seagrass weaves that we have done. If you click on the photos, a larger image should appear.
